The term "world literature" is actually a shortened form of "social customs and human relations," and world literature refers to novels that primarily focus on the daily lives, food and desires, love and marriage, family relationships, the rise and fall of families or clans, and the lives of people from all social strata to reflect social reality. This small book will describe the history of the emergence, development, and decline of ancient Chinese world literature according to the above definition and scope, and will strive to accurately establish the positions of some important writers and works within the world literature genre and the broader Chinese fiction system. It will also explore the internal logical connections of the development of world literature itself, as well as its relationships with other genres of fiction, other forms of art, and especially with the development of opera, in order to more clearly outline the development of world literature and reveal some of the more important patterns in its development.
