Features: Any literary phenomenon is a product of human cultural consciousness, and human cultural consciousness originates from productive labor and social life. Because unfairness and cruelty exist in society, there arise chivalrous deeds and chivalrous individuals, leading to the circulation of chivalry and public case stories, and thus chivalry and public case novels were born. A review of the history of ancient Chinese fiction shows that chivalry and public case novels, as well as the chivalry-public case novels formed by the fusion of these two genres, underwent a gradual process of formation, maturation, and development. Due to their differences in content, themes, and artistic techniques, these three categories—chivalry novels, public case novels, and chivalry-public case novels—coexist. However, chivalry-public case novels emerged after chivalry and public case novels had developed to a certain extent. For the convenience of narration, this book is divided into chapters according to the objective laws of the development of chivalry novels, public case novels, and chivalry-public case novels.
