Comparative Constitution: Contemporary French Thought and Culture Translation Series

Author: Wang Shijie

Publish Date: 1999-11-01
Features: The attitude of this book is declarative, not critical. What this book declares is indeed not limited to the meanings of constitutional texts or the contents of political systems of various countries, but often involves the theories of various political systems. However, when this book puts forward theories, it generally includes both supporting and opposing viewpoints. Moreover, it often stops at merely stating the two viewpoints; apart from stating, it rarely adds judgments or personal opinions. This is because political systems largely contain temporal and regional characteristics. Abstract judgments, if not biased, may easily be superficial; they are not only unhelpful but may also obscure others' thoughts. The categorization of the content of this book is not based on national standards but on the issues generally stipulated in modern constitutions. Under each issue, this book will summarize the various different provisions in the constitutions or laws of various countries, as well as the various different opinions among scholars. Even the constitutions or laws issued by the central government and provinces of our country in the past ten years, if they are of value for discussion, should also be mentioned. This method may not enable readers to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the constitutional organizations of any country, but it may allow readers to know what different solutions have been adopted among various countries regarding various constitutional issues, and to know what different opinions scholars have on those solutions.
