Sun Qiangming Collection (Volume 1 and 2) -- Wenzhou Literature Series

Author: Sun Qiangming (Qing Dynasty) wrote, Hu Zhusheng edited and annotated
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2003-08-01
Features: The materials recorded in this book generally adopt the original titles. For some titles with two names, one is selected and annotated, while those that are too long or ambiguous in meaning are given new titles with the original ones indicated. Nine letters from Li Hongzhang to Sun Ruitian are included. Since the Complete Works of Li Hongzhang distinguishes between "Shidu" (Imperial Reader) and "Duxue" (Academic Reader), it is no longer applicable, so the other seven are titled with content summaries. The original materials recorded in this book were all lacking dates. For those with titles that can be traced, the dates are noted below the titles in the table of contents. The book mentions the Gregorian years in the sexagenary cycle, and generally marks the Qing Dynasty years in parentheses at the first occurrence. The original poem titles in Sea Sun Tower Poems seemed to be arranged in chronological order, but upon examination, many did not match. The same applies to couplets, so during this (reorganization), any issues found were adjusted accordingly, while those not discovered remain unchanged. The main text in this book is segmented and punctuated. When quoting historical records, many omissions and modifications are often made. To remain faithful to the original, omitted text is noted in parentheses, and changes are explained with annotations or marked with quotation marks to indicate that the original was not continuous. If there are omissions or unclear doubts, they are marked with □. In the recorded poems and couplets, local names, aliases, as well as the names of teachers, friends, officials, and places that are difficult to understand without annotations are explained. Important plots, key quotes, and relevant circumstances of all parties involved are supplemented with annotations as much as possible. For each volume, the editor adds notes where necessary, summarizing the materials for reference.
