Features: "Ancient Greece: Humans and Gods" is the largest exhibition of ancient Greek artifacts ever held in China. The 120 sets of artifacts on display span a period of 7,000 years, from the Neolithic Age to the 5th century AD. For the general public who has limited knowledge of ancient Greece, how can they appreciate this exhibition? What are the characteristics of ancient Greek artifacts compared to contemporary Chinese artifacts? Chen Yu, a researcher at the National Museum who curated the exhibition, introduces that Greek civilization is known as the cornerstone of modern Western civilization. The ancient Greek culture that has been passed down mainly consists of sculpture and drama. It is not difficult to see from this exhibition that ancient Greek sculpture art was highly developed, especially stone sculpture. Many people may not have noticed that although Chinese civilization is not renowned for sculpture, our ancient sculpture art was still highly skilled, and artworks from the same period as Greece each have their own strengths. This exhibition features 120 artifacts from 37 museums in Greece, including terracotta statues, bronze works, marble sculptures, metal reliefs, and pottery paintings of various types of ancient art treasures from the Neolithic Age (7th century BC) to the 5th century AD in ancient Greece, fully reflecting the history, culture, and artistic style of ancient Greece, the birthplace of European culture.
