Features: The Shanghai Financial Development Report (2003) is part of a series, and the one published this year is the second volume. The manuscript is an authoritative and comprehensive work organized by the Shanghai Municipal Financial Work Committee and the Shanghai Financial Office. The book is divided into 4 parts and 27 chapters, providing a comprehensive and systematic reflection of Shanghai's financial development in 2003 and the progress in building an international financial center. Organized under the leadership of the Shanghai Financial Office, the book possesses a certain level of authority and informativeness.
Like the structure of the previous volume, this book is also divided into 4 parts—Comprehensive, Market, Business, and Environment—with 27 chapters, adding 3 more than the last. These additional chapters cover the construction of Shanghai's Bank Card Industrial Park, financial risk prevention, and the assessment of financial service quality. These new sections focus on Shanghai's development as an international financial center and the challenges of financial risk and services, marking a distinctive feature of this volume.
To enhance readability and knowledge, the authors have also added "Columns" at the end of some chapters, which include either summary texts or informative content, another unique feature of the book. Additionally, the preface and table of contents are provided in English to facilitate international readers in understanding the current state of Shanghai's financial industry.
In the early 1990s, with a significant shift in Shanghai's urban positioning, the city's economic development function also transformed, with the goal of establishing a new growth pole centered on economy, finance, trade, and shipping becoming a reality. After more than a decade of effort, Shanghai has laid a preliminary foundation for its role as a domestic financial center, providing an extremely important basis for achieving its goal of becoming an international financial center.
The Shanghai International Financial Research Center and the Department of Regional Economics at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences have collaborated to objectively and comprehensively review and summarize the development trajectory of China's financial markets over the past 13 years. They have also analyzed the strategic progress in Shanghai's efforts to establish itself as a national financial center, culminating in this book as a reference for industry professionals.
