Rich People and Poor People -- From the Works of Hemingway

Author: Hemingway
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-07-01
Features: A collection of Hemingway's works. This book is divided into three parts: "Spring," "Autumn," and "Winter," vividly depicting the failed life of Harry Morgan, an "individualist." In "Spring," Morgan runs a fishing boat rental business and, out of necessity, transports "live cargo" (illegal immigrants) for others. To protect himself, he breaks the law, getting involved in a murder case. In "Autumn," Morgan engages in the smuggling of hard liquor, living a perilous life "walking on the edge." By "Winter," Morgan is already at his wit's end and resorts to any means to make money, even agreeing to transport a group of Cuban bank robbers back to Cuba. Although he kills the gang of terrorists on the yacht, he himself is shot and dies tragically. This is one of Hemingway's works that has sparked strong controversy among critics.
