A Reality of Life -- A Series of Works by Yu Hua

Author: Yu Hua
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-05-01
Features: The book includes three short novels, all written in a detached tone to depict death, bloodshed, and violence, revealing the cruelty of human nature and the absurdity of existence. Especially "A Kind of Reality," which involves no emotional intervention and narrates a story of family members killing each other with exceptional calmness, rationality, and order. Yu Hua believes these works "record the madness, violence, and bloodshed I once had, as if they were surging through the words like waves. It is a narrative that starts from a nightmare and reaches a hellish state. For this reason, at the time, some people thought that what flowed in my veins was not blood, but ice shards."
