Features: Life often regrets the scarcity of true friends. A true friend is one who transcends distance and ignores material gain, a meeting like the high mountain and flowing water, where hearts connect in perfect understanding. The people written about in this book are mostly peers, but more are teachers or friends in the teacher-friend category. My interactions with them range from deep to shallow—some, like Mu Dan, admired and aspired to be like them but were destined to never meet, while others like Deng Tuo and Gong Nu only had a few brief encounters. However, all have been readers of their works and have come to know them, believing themselves to have a certain understanding, leading to a deep connection, or what might be called "true friendship." Most of them are no longer with us, and I have gradually written down some memories, tributes, and reflections. Will these scattered thoughts be mistaken in claiming to know them well? I leave it to the readers to judge. Fortunately, there are no nobles or those who can bring certain so-called benefits, so there is no need to fear the suspicion of arrogance.
