Features: Su Shi (1037–1101) was a Chinese literatus and painter during the Song Dynasty. His courtesy name was Zizhan, also known as Hezhong, and he styled himself Dongpo Jushi. Born in Meishan, Meizhou (now part of Sichuan), Dongpo Zhilin can be considered Su Shi's "humorous literature." The author not only recorded many court and public events but also incorporated many fantastical legends. His writing is witty and engaging, largely paving the way for the style of Ming Dynasty short essays.
