Features: This book is a collective effort compiled by the teachers of the Literature Theory Teaching and Research Office of the Chinese Department, School of Liberal Arts, Hunan Normal University. A good literary theory textbook must have its own theoretical system and narrative style, strive to incorporate current academic research achievements, reflect the current state of literary theory research, and fully consider the practical teaching needs of higher education institutions. It should achieve a balance between teaching and research, as well as between imparting knowledge and cultivating students' abilities. The textbook should be scientifically sound, innovative, accurate, accessible, and thought-provoking, facilitating students' knowledge acquisition and the development of their theoretical thinking skills. To this end, the global authors have made efforts. Compared to domestic literary theory textbooks, this book has made some adjustments and changes in its compilation format. The book consists of 18 chapters, with relatively detailed divisions, aiming to better and more concisely explain the fundamental issues of literary theory. At the end of the book, an appendix chapter has been added, which is rare in existing literary theory textbooks. However, this chapter is not intended as teaching content but is provided for students who are eager to delve deeper into literary theory issues. This chapter can also be integrated with the senior-level critical history course. Additionally, as this is a literary theory textbook for teacher-training institutions, we have emphasized the "pedagogical" aspect by strengthening the content of chapters on literary language, literary imagery, the composition of literary works, literary genres, literary style, creative methods, and appreciation and reception. We have also included a dedicated chapter on literary criticism to help students develop the ability to appreciate, understand, analyze, and critique literary works and literary phenomena, thereby encouraging them to better engage in literary practice.
