From the perspective of literature, texts are selected for their highest artistic quality, highlighting the literariness of the works;
From a practical standpoint, the selection considers the continuity between old and new textbooks, the connection between higher normal education graduates and secondary school Chinese teaching, as well as the bridge between learning and application, referencing the Teaching Syllabus for Higher Normal Ancient Chinese Literature and the selected texts from secondary school Chinese textbooks.
