Features: For the literary development history of each genre, the principle we adhere to is: , the combination of genre variation and authorial creation. In describing the history of each genre, we take the evolution of the genre as the vertical axis and the trends of the times and authorial creation as the horizontal axis, striving to provide a clear narrative of the birth, development, evolution, and characteristics of each genre. We also closely integrate the introduction of the creative achievements of important authors with the evolution of the genre and the changes in the trends of the times, aiming to combine the historical process of the rise and fall of a genre, the influence of the trends of the times, and the creative journey of authors into a comprehensive view of the historical development and changes of Chinese literature in various genres.
Second, the discussion of history should be combined with the selection and commentary of works. When discussing the evolution, characteristics, and authorial creation of each genre, we appropriately cite some classic works, organically integrating the outline of the genre's development history, the revelation of its characteristics, and the commentary on authorial creation with the selection and commentary of works. The proportion of quoted original texts varies depending on the genre, generally accounting for 20%–30% of the content. Although this approach is more labor-intensive, it avoids vague and unfounded discussions and ensures that we "catch the fish" without "forgetting the net."
Third, we adhere to the principle of being realistic. When evaluating authorial works and related literary phenomena, we respect historical facts and consider the reading experience of previous generations, striving to be objective and fair. At the same time, we strive to stand at a new historical height, presenting new insights based on solid material and demonstrating academic individuality. We also pay attention to incorporating research findings from the academic community.
Fourth, for authors who excel in multiple genres, we avoid omissions while also avoiding repetition. Our principle is as follows: If an important author appears in multiple sections of the same volume, we introduce their life and discuss their relevant creation in the section where they first appear. In subsequent sections, we generally focus only on certain aspects of their creation. Additionally, this book lists some discussion questions at the end of each chapter to help readers grasp the key points of the chapter, and it provides major references at the end of each section, including original works, theoretical works, or important reference books and source materials. The purpose of doing this is to provide a reading guide for beginners and some assistance for in-depth researchers.
