Publish Date: 2001-10-01
Features: This book examines the course of human civilization's evolution from ancient times to the early 1990s, covering major regions and countries. It retains the basic features of the fifth edition, focusing on the achievements of humanity in culture, thought, institutions, and knowledge. When narrating political history, it emphasizes introducing its connections with cultural, social, and economic development history. It highlights the inheritance and interaction of human civilizations, both focusing on the unique achievements of major human civilizations and revealing their limitations. Richly illustrated and closely coordinated with the text, the new edition, like the fifth edition, attempts to briefly examine the journey of humanity's pursuit of civilization from ancient times to the present. Important regions or countries are all covered. Europe, North America, Central America, South America, the Commonwealth, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, India, China, and Japan are given appropriate attention. It is clear that this book cannot detail their histories. The consistent purpose of this book is to help students understand both the unique achievements and limitations of major human societies and cultures, as well as to make them concerned about contemporary issues. Political events are considered important, but the facts of political history are presented in ways related to cultural, social, and economic movements. The authors of this book believe that the Industrial Revolution is no less important than the Napoleonic Wars.
