Features: The Analects is a book that records the words and deeds of Confucius, as well as those of some of his students. Ban Gu's Book of Han·Bibliography states that the Analects consists of the words Confucius spoke in response to his disciples, contemporaries, and the conversations among disciples that were overheard by Confucius. At that time, the disciples each kept their own records. After Confucius's death, his disciples compiled and edited these records, hence the name Analects. The Annotations to the Discourse on Fate in the Selections of Refined Literature cites the Words of Fu to say: In the past, after Zhongni passed away, his disciple Zhonggong and others compiled and recorded the words of the Master, calling it the Analects.
