Features: PETS Level 1 (B) is an auxiliary level of PETS Level 1, with slightly lower requirements. The purpose of establishing this level is to meet the needs of widespread popularization of daily English expressions, so it places greater emphasis on oral communication and basic daily interaction. To meet the training and learning needs of the Level 1 (B) exam, the National English Proficiency Test (NEPT) textbook writing team has compiled this textbook based on the new exam syllabus formulated by the Ministry of Education. The textbook focuses on the spirit of quality education and competency-based learning, emphasizing communicative application and practical features. It covers all the grammar items, communicative functions, and approximately 98% of the vocabulary in the Level 1 (B) syllabus, while also appropriately expanding some grammar and vocabulary knowledge to bridge the gap for candidates transitioning to Level 1. This book covers multiple areas of daily communication, with each area tailored to the actual needs of the candidate group. It includes 16 communicative topics, each forming a unit. Each unit includes:
1. Dialogues: Based on the communicative topics of each unit, containing 3-5 simple dialogues that are fresh, interesting, and highly practical. The dialogues cover the basic communicative expressions stipulated in the syllabus while introducing new and trendy spoken language.
2. Texts: Selected from authentic English original materials, accompanied by cartoon illustrations, making the content lively and visually engaging. The text length ranges from 40 to 120 words, generally serving as a supplement or extension of the dialogue content in the unit.
3. Words and Phrases: Covers approximately 98% of the vocabulary items in the Level 1 (B) syllabus. Additional commonly used words not included in the syllabus are supplemented to help candidates learn more rich and practical sentence patterns and words. Some out-of-syllabus vocabulary is appropriately expanded to provide greater improvement opportunities for candidates with stronger learning abilities. Out-of-syllabus words are marked with an asterisk () in each unit’s vocabulary list for easy memorization without further requirements. All words are provided with international phonetic symbols, part of speech, and Chinese definitions for more convenient self-study and memorization.
4. Notes and Tips: Highlights important grammar and vocabulary in the unit, expands related communicative expressions, and uses shading to emphasize key exam points in the notes.
5. After-Class Exercises: Designed based on the communicative topics and key content of each unit, allowing candidates to self-assess their understanding of the unit’s key points. The exam-style questions are closely linked to real exams and focus on assessing foundational knowledge for the unit.
