Features: In oil and watercolor sketching, the methods of observation and the establishment of color relationships are the core of the painting process. If you don’t observe, you can’t paint. Color landscape sketching emphasizes a fresh feeling, requiring you to see quickly and capture the impression of colors. Never let your eyes linger on one spot or stare fixedly at a single patch of color in isolation. Instead, take a "quick glance" to determine its saturation, brightness, and depth, and then quickly compare it with nearby and adjacent colors, rapidly mixing the corresponding colors on the palette. Rapid comparison is an effective method for accurately observing colors. Only through comparison can you identify the differences in colors; only through comparison can you establish the color relationships of the subject. Every patch of color on the canvas is interconnected, and none exists in isolation. While observing, the colors on the palette are mixed in a synchronized and orderly manner. As observation, comparison, analysis, and harmonization shape the work, a harmonious coordination of eye, brain, and hand is formed, which is the primary action and psychology of painting.
