Publishing Date: November 1, 1996
Features: In October 1995, the Editorial Department of "Wenshi Zhishi" and the Religious Research Center of the State Administration for Religious Affairs co-organized the "Islam Culture Special Issue," aiming to introduce the unique Chinese Islamic culture to a broad readership from the perspective of religious culture. The special issue has the following characteristics:
1. It primarily introduces the status of Islam in Chinese history from a cultural rather than religious perspective.
2. While affirming that Islam retains its original characteristics after entering China, it focuses on the process of its integration with traditional Chinese culture.
3. It emphasizes the contributions of Islam to the historical development in China.
4. It briefly introduces common knowledge about Islam.
After the publication and distribution of the special issue, it received positive feedback from all sectors of society. Many readers who did not purchase the issue requested the editorial department to reprint it to meet their demand. To address this, the Editorial Department of "Wenshi Zhishi" collaborated again with the Religious Research Center of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, supplementing additional content based on the "Islam Culture Special Issue" to compile the book Chinese Islamic Culture. The supplementary content more vividly reflects the characteristics of Chinese Islamic culture. Additionally, considering the needs of Muslim readers during festivals, we have specially invited relevant experts to compile the Islamic Festivals and Calendar (1996-2050) Gregorian, Agricultural, and Islamic Calendars for Reference, which is included in the book for easy lookup. We believe it will be well-received by a broad readership.
