Features: During the period of social transformation, compiling and reading these masterpieces from the modern European poetry scene seems to make us forget the clamor of the outside world. The ideas in the poems will stir the waves of the heart, and the elegant and profound language in the poems will resonate like a bell, lingering in people's minds for a long time. Selected and Annotated Modern European Poetry presents a holy, mysterious, yet ordinary and simple world, a world of trembling souls, a world of rich emotions, and a world of soaring thoughts. The modern European poems selected in this book are mostly well-established in the history of world literature or poetry, or of exceptional artistic merit, or widely celebrated. Due to publishing requirements and page limits, most of the selected poems are short, ranging from 40 to 80 lines, with a few exceptions being longer poems. Some countries have many poets, such as the UK, France, Russia, and Germany, where a generation of poets emerges almost every era; while others are largely represented by a single poet who stands for the poetic scene of their time, such as Hungary's Pet?fi. We strive to encompass the basic outline of the style of modern European poetry, and to ensure that the selected poems reflect the diversity of style, theme, and genre, as well as the richness of the poets' creative perspectives.
