Features: With the acceleration of modernization, some ancient art forms are facing numerous development challenges. It is important to understand that the disappearance of a particular art form is not merely its obsolescence, as fundamentally, any art form has acquired many functions through its long-term development. In fact, it has long become an effective carrier of culture. Therefore, how we treat those traditional arts that appear to be on the fringes is actually related to the inheritance of our culture, such as Kunqu Opera. The birth and development of Kunqu Opera span several centuries, and its growth is a product of social and economic development. It particularly embodies the social characteristics, lifestyles, and scholarly tastes of the southern region—、、、. At the same time, it has absorbed the strengths of many traditional Chinese art forms, such as literature, drama, music, and fine arts. Mr. Gao Madui has devoted decades of effort to appreciating, studying, and depicting Kunqu Opera, creating a large body of works. Many readers have gained a deeper understanding of Kunqu Opera and developed a stronger appreciation for this traditional art through his works. Now, the collection Splendid Colors—Gao Madui's Kunqu Opera Paintings has been compiled and published. It is hoped that more people will explore Mr. Gao Madui's paintings of opera characters and get closer to Kunqu Opera.
