Features: Einstein, Edison, Churchill, Carnegie; Shen Congwen, Su Buqing, Sanmao—none of them were well-behaved as children, rebellious, and untamed; they were naturally inclined to think independently and do things their own way; they were called "idiot" by teachers and suffered humiliation, and were regarded by schools as untrainable "waste products." Yet, they were favored by history and became outstanding figures. Is this a mockery of education, or an inspiration for it? A society composed of individuals who lack personal creativity and personal ambition, all conforming to the same standards, will be an unfortunate society with no potential for development. On the contrary, the goal of schools should be to cultivate individuals with independent action and independent thinking, but they should regard serving society as the highest purpose of their lives.
