Features: The criteria for including rare diseases in this book are as follows:
1. Rare diseases, such as osteopetrosis, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, etc.;
2. Common diseases with atypical manifestations, such as typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever with onset of coma and convulsions, or pediatric tuberculosis primarily presenting with clubbed fingers and toes;
3. Diseases without specific manifestations but with very difficult clinical diagnosis, such as pediatric aspergillosis;
4. Diseases with specific manifestations but uncommon and not widely recognized, such as neonatal epidermolysis bullosa;
5. Regional diseases that are present in certain areas but rare elsewhere, such as angiostrongyliasis cantonensis.
The book is organized with case studies as well as case analyses, and most cases are accompanied by important visual materials. Since all these cases were personally experienced by the author, the description of diagnostic thinking for these diseases is vivid and serves as an example for broader application. During the writing process, the author also referenced recent domestic and international literature to introduce relevant diagnosis and treatment of the diseases, enabling clinicians to conveniently obtain useful information from the book when addressing practical issues, thus avoiding the hassle of searching extensively in their busy work.
In the appendix, the symptoms, signs, important examination contents, and a few special medications for each rare disease are compiled into a bilingual index, facilitating readers to access the information through different approaches while also serving as a tool for differential diagnosis. Important references are provided at the end of each section for further study.
