Features: The world-renowned Libya Great Man-Made River water conveyance project is the longest, largest-diameter, and most heavily invested-in long-distance water conveyance project in the world today. It transports abundant groundwater from the Sahara Desert through pipelines to the densely populated coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea in the north. This paper introduces the construction process of long-distance, large-diameter water conveyance pipelines based on the actual conditions of the project, particularly highlighting some construction issues that the author finds noteworthy. Through specific examples, the characteristics of prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) are elaborated, including its basic laying methods, relevant precautions, etc. Detailed explanations are provided on cathodic protection using sacrificial anodes, the principles of the entire system, monitoring the corrosion degree of PCCP pipes, testing line connections, and the installation and testing of the system. Additionally, a brief introduction is given on the construction plan, organization, and techniques for underground large-scale reinforced concrete covered reservoirs, summarizing some experiences regarding the setting of construction joints and technical treatments for large-scale reservoirs, especially in reducing cracks in reinforced concrete reservoirs. Finally, schematic diagrams of some special auxiliary structures in the Libya Great Man-Made River water conveyance project are drawn to help readers further understand this large-scale water conveyance project.
