Features: This book first explains the psychological characteristics of the elderly, then discusses their common psychological problems or mental illnesses, and subsequently elaborates on the principles and key points of various counseling methods. To illustrate the various psychological issues older adults may encounter and how to provide appropriate counseling tailored to their situations, numerous case studies of different natures are presented and analyzed separately. This is the sixth book in the "Popular Series on Psychotherapy," focusing on the psychology of the elderly and how to provide appropriate counseling based on their psychological characteristics. Although the definition of "elderly" varies with social and individual circumstances, in this book, following academic conventions and statistical perspectives, it refers to individuals aged 60 and above. With the improvement of living standards and advancements in healthcare, the average life expectancy worldwide is significantly increasing, extending from around 50 years in the past to about 75 years, and some are even approaching 80 years. The old saying "seventy is considered rare in ancient times" is no longer applicable, and it is becoming a modern society where "a hundred years is also not rare." Furthermore, not only has individual lifespan been greatly extended, but the proportion of the elderly population in society has also increased significantly. In many developed societies, the elderly are expected to account for more than one-fifth of the total population.
