Features: The Seventh Grade and Eighth Grade Exercise Books are two series of supplementary practice materials that are synchronized with the course teaching. During the writing process, we strictly adhered to the requirements of the "Teaching Syllabus for English Majors in Higher Education" and the "College English Majors Band 8 Test Syllabus (2004 New Version)," compiling various exercises based on single micro-skill units, aiming to improve students' English practical abilities. The books not only include question types identical to those in the English Majors Band 8 Test samples—Listening Comprehension, Proofreading and Error Correction, Reading Comprehension, Humanities Knowledge, and Translation and Writing—but also add Cloze Tests. To enable students to comprehensively assess their English proficiency after strengthening their practice of various micro-skills, we have compiled two sets of mock exams at the end of each book, with question types and quantities identical to those of the official English Majors Band 8 Test. Following the principle of gradual progression, the overall difficulty of the seventh and eighth-grade books differs. These two books are suitable for English majors in the third and fourth years of universities across the country, as well as various English self-learners with comparable proficiency.
Book Features:
1. Novel content and diverse themes: Most of the language learning materials in these two books are selected from newspapers, magazines, and books published in the UK and the US in the past two years, covering a wide range of topics such as politics, economics, culture, and technology. The content is fresh, rich, interesting, broad, and profound. Learning these materials not only improves English proficiency but also expands knowledge, cultivates analytical and critical thinking skills. These books serve as an excellent supplement to classroom teaching.
2. Large quantity and high quality of language input: The Seventh and Eighth Grade Exercise Books contain 292 short passages and nearly 230,000 words of language material, providing learners with abundant input. The English materials selected in the books are written by native speakers, ensuring authenticity, standardization, and vividness, offering learners standard examples.
3. Gradually progressive language materials: The total word count for the seventh grade is 110,689, with a vocabulary of 11,995 words and an average word length of 4.62 letters. The total word count for the eighth grade is 117,755, with a vocabulary of 12,435 words and an average word length of 4.75 letters. Compared to the seventh grade, the eighth grade has 7,066 more words, 440 more words in vocabulary, and an average word length that is 0.13 letters longer. This demonstrates that the selection of materials in these two books strictly follows the principle of gradual progression, providing learners with a solid foundation for steadily improving their language skills.
