Features: English learning should focus on improving skills, especially for specific goals, specialized and targeted training is necessary to achieve twice the result with half the effort. To this end, the editor of this book has carefully studied the national unified examination syllabus for the English proficiency test for candidates applying for master's degrees based on the same academic level, and has compiled ten sets of mock tests by referring to numerous relevant materials. These ten sets of mock tests cover the main points of the exam in previous years. For each question, the book not only provides reference answers but also gives detailed explanations for common language problems that candidates are prone to make. At the same time, to facilitate candidates' self-study, the book also provides Chinese translations of key words and sentences. To help readers better use this book, we have put forward the following suggestions for candidates based on the characteristics of the exam questions:
1. Listening Comprehension: Candidates must listen to two or three passages before referring to the audio script. During the listening process, it is not necessary to understand every word; instead, focus on grasping the main idea. Otherwise, it may lead to being overwhelmed by details and missing the forest for the trees. Therefore, during listening, consciously cultivate the ability to grasp the main idea.
2. Vocabulary: Pay special attention to idiomatic expressions and fixed collocations. Master the various meanings of common prepositions and adverbs. With this foundation, the application of fixed collocations can be achieved with ease.
3. Reading Comprehension: Candidates must firmly remember that every question is related to the content of the passage. Avoid making subjective assumptions or guesses based on prior knowledge. In practice, ensure that every question can be answered based on the passage, otherwise, it may result in understanding the passage but failing to answer the questions correctly.
4. Cloze Test: This is a comprehensive test of vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills. Before answering, read the entire passage to grasp its main idea. After completing the test, review the entire passage to ensure accuracy. Sometimes, a single sentence or option may seem correct, but in the context of the passage, it may not be the right answer.
5. Error Identification and Correction: This is often considered a difficult part by candidates. Although it is challenging, mastering the rules can make it easier. The key to mastering these rules lies in extensive practice. Without a certain amount of practice, it is impossible to achieve the desired results. In addition to the exercises in this book, candidates can also try similar exercises from the TOEFL exam.
6. Chinese-to-English Translation: This is also a challenging part, but once you understand that English sentences are typically "head-heavy" (meaning the main clause comes first), it becomes less difficult. In practice, simplify the Chinese sentence, identify the main components, write down the basic subject-verb structure, and then add modifiers and adverbial phrases. With enough practice, proficiency will come naturally.
7. Writing: Candidates should read more model essays regularly. During the exam, strive to have a clear theme, sufficient arguments, neat handwriting, and concise narration.
