Features: The most artistic achievement of Detective Tracy lies in its portrayal of various, novel, and peculiar villains. Just as the gangster antagonist in Detective Tracy was inspired by Al Capone, most of the villains Tracy encounters come from contemporary society, nearly all of whom had appeared in the front-page news of the time. For example, the escape method of Boris Aliston in Gould's work mimics the methods of the outlaw Dillinger, and the villainous figures in works like Bonnie, Clyde,, and Legs Diamond can mostly be traced back to real-life prototypes in society. During the early years of the Great Depression in the United States, gangsters flourished. After the Black Sox scandal led to the downfall of the gangster empire headed by Chicago's Al Capone, there was widespread relief, and comic strip artist Chester Gould was inspired to create the pioneering American crime-comic strip Detective Tracy, which achieved massive success. It has been72, becoming a household name in the United States. This collection is compiled based on Detective Tracy Cases, published in the United States in 1990 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Detective Tracy. It includes one representative work from the 1970s and one from the 1980s.
