Features: This book is compiled according to the new PETS examination syllabus issued by the Ministry of Education. Entries generally consist of the following parts: headword, phonetic transcription, part of speech, inflectional forms of the headword, definition, memory tips, typical example sentences, examination points, vocabulary expansion, and classic examination questions.
(1) Headword: Words and phrases specified in the PETS examination syllabus vocabulary list.
(2) Phonetic Transcription: The pronunciation of the headword is indicated using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) after the headword. If a word has different pronunciations due to different parts of speech, both pronunciations are placed in brackets and separated by a semicolon. Generally, one pronunciation is marked for each headword; less common variant pronunciations are sometimes also provided, separated by a semicolon.
(3) Part of Speech: The part of speech is indicated in italics using English abbreviations. If a headword has multiple parts of speech, they are arranged in order of commonality.
(4) Inflectional Forms of the Headword: This refers to irregular forms of verbs (e.g., irregular verb conjugations), irregular plural forms of nouns, irregular comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs, etc. For the convenience of examinees, we have systematically organized and compiled irregular verb conjugations and irregular plural forms of nouns, presenting them in a table format in the book.
