Features: The tapestry of beauty is woven from green trees, thoughts, bird songs, melancholy, blue skies, memories, and fragrant herbs. In this travelogue, Heine alternates his satire and ridicule of evil (reactionary, decaying, vulgar, and filthy social phenomena) with his praise of goodness (the diligence and simplicity of ordinary laborers) and beauty (natural scenery). Thus, his pen constantly shifts scenes, his tone sometimes lyrical, sometimes critical; his tone sometimes gentle, sometimes intense; his style sometimes prose, sometimes verse, resembling a continuous symphony of gentle breezes and fierce storms. This vividly reflects the poet's dual yet unified feelings of combativeness and benevolence, as well as his unrestrained and versatile style, showcasing his remarkable talent for satire and humor. — Ye Tingfang
