Features: "Talk While Holding a Candle" was published by Shanghai Beishu Bookstore in February 1940. It contains twenty-nine essays written from November 1936 to April 1937, mostly posthumous works following "Melon and Bean." The author originally wrote a preface but did not include it in the collection; it was later added to "Post-Talk While Holding a Candle." In the "Two Short Prefaces" of "Post-Talk While Holding a Candle," it is noted: "Talk While Holding a Candle has been published, but there is no preface, as the manuscript was lost in the Shanghai fires." Several works published after "Talk While Holding a Candle" faced difficulties due to wartime conditions, with the printing of this book delayed for several years as one example.
