Genre: Refers to the style and format of the text, serving as a specification and model for the composition of the article. It reflects the overall characteristics of the text from form to content. The title of this book, "Textual Reading Method," aims to elucidate the various internal connections between [text] and [reading]. Since genre is an attribute of the reading material, studying the relationship between reading and genre essentially involves exploring the correspondence between readers and reading materials from a certain perspective. Reading is a universal social activity, the mental process by which readers extract and process information from the spiritual products of authors. As one of the four core language skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and a capability for understanding and transforming the world, it has gained increasing attention and has gradually differentiated itself from linguistics and textual studies, evolving into an independent discipline—reading studies. Genre reading has long been regarded as an important component of reading studies. According to the complete construction of modern science, an independent and mature reading studies must include three parts: reading principles, reading techniques, and reading training. Research on reading techniques theory primarily focuses on two aspects: one is to emphasize reader competence, breaking down and synthesizing reading abilities in layers to establish a scientific system of reading techniques; the other is to emphasize the characteristics of reading materials, clarifying the boundaries and interpenetration between genres and grasping the reading rules of various genres. These are two highly academically and practically valuable topics, serving as an intermediate link in applying reading principles to reading training and a necessary bridge for readers eager to improve their reading skills. It is precisely from this perspective that we believe genre reading method is a branch of reading studies.
