How is varicocele treated with minimally invasive surgery?

Patient's question:

On the left side, it has been present for 8 years. Now it has been discovered that the right side is also varicose.

Doctor's answer:

Varicocele is a common disease among young and middle-aged adults, referring to the dilation, tortuosity, and elongation of the pampiniform plexus (vein vascular plexus) caused by the congestion of spermatic vein blood flow. Varicocele can be accompanied by testicular atrophy and impaired sperm production, leading to male infertility. In male infertility, varicocele accounts for 15% to 20%, and among varicocele patients, approximately 35% suffer from infertility. The mechanism by which varicocele causes infertility is believed to involve high temperatures interfering with sperm production, the toxic damage of vasoactive substances to the spermatogenic epithelium, and the blood stasis in the pampiniform plexus leading to insufficient nutrition and hypoxia in the testes. Minimally invasive surgical treatment for varicocele-induced infertility has been adopted by nearly a thousand patients with azoospermia or oligozoospermia caused by varicocele, undergoing laparoscopic varicocelectomy. Postoperative follow-up and reexamination of these patients have shown significant improvements in sperm quality, restoration of fertility, and successful pregnancy with partners. Compared to conventional surgery, laparoscopic varicocelectomy offers superior advantages. Wishing you good health!
