Features: The "Compendium of Gold Inscriptions" collects over 7,600 names from the inscriptions on Shang and Zhou dynasty bronze artifacts, both those passed down through tradition and those unearthed through archaeological excavations. The names are compiled by stroke order, with approximately 2,100 characters used as headings. Based on the content of the inscriptions and relevant historical records, each person is briefly introduced to provide useful material for archaeologists, historians, and paleographers. It is hoped that this work will be beneficial to the study of Shang and Zhou history and paleography. The data used in the "Compendium of Gold Inscriptions" are those recorded before the end of September 2004 and published in provincial-level or higher newspapers and journals, as well as those seen by the compiler but not yet publicly released. A total of 60 books and journals are cited for reference. For convenience, the volume and issue numbers of the cited books and journals are noted after the names of the bronze artifacts. The era of the gold inscriptions covered ranges from the Shang dynasty to the Warring States period, excluding those from the Qin dynasty after the unification of the six states (i.e., those from 221 BCE onwards). Forgeries in traditionally passed-down bronze artifacts are carefully excluded; those of uncertain authenticity, for which only suspicion exists, are included with the note "suspected forgery" added after the name of the bronze artifact.
