Features: This compilation, Bibliography of Chinese Archaeology, includes five main sections: bibliographies of archaeology publications in mainland China, indexes of archaeological papers in newspapers and journals, indexes of archaeological papers in collections, and bibliographies of archaeology publications in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Each section is organized under broadly consistent categories. At the end of the book, there is an Index of Cited Journals, Newspapers, Collections, and Reference Works. The publications covered span the period from 1983 to 1990, primarily focusing on publicly published books and journals, with some widely circulated but unofficial publications also included.
2 To facilitate reference in archaeological research, this bibliography, Bibliography of Chinese Archaeology, not only collects various works and materials on Chinese archaeology but also selectively includes literature from related disciplines such as: ancient Chinese history, cultural history of China, art history of China, history of science and technology in China, ethnic history of China, history of Sino-foreign relations, as well as paleoanthropology, historical geography, ethnography, etc. The selection criteria primarily depend on the relevance of the content to archaeology or the extent to which archaeological materials are cited. Foreign literature on archaeology, except for general overviews of archaeology and works involving Sino-foreign relations, is generally excluded.
3 The Bibliography of Archaeology Publications section includes 1,884 publications on archaeology and translated works from mainland China. It records the authors, publishers, and publication dates of each book, with details such as page numbers, illustrations, and formats where possible. Reviews published in newspapers and journals are also included for reference. Books marked with an asterisk () are reprinted editions. This compilation also includes some popular pamphlets and loose-leaf illustrations.
4 The Index of Archaeological Papers in Newspapers and Journals section and the Index of Archaeological Papers in Collections section together cover over 21,400 entries. For each entry, the author, source, and publication date are noted, with page ranges provided where possible. Articles marked with an asterisk () are brief reports on archaeological work and were selectively recorded in this book. If a formal archaeological report or brief is already listed in this bibliography, general news reports are not included.
5 The Bibliography of Archaeology Publications in Taiwan and Hong Kong and the Index of Archaeological Papers in Newspapers and Collections in Taiwan and Hong Kong sections primarily include works and documents we have encountered. Some entries may be incomplete due to the absence of original copies.
6 The arrangement of works and materials in this bibliography is organized under various categories, with entries grouped by content as much as possible. Comprehensive and thematic research articles are generally arranged with comprehensive discussions preceding specialized studies.
7 For authors of works and materials, if an organization or group name is listed alongside the author, the name of the contributor is enclosed in parentheses. When there are three or more authors or contributors, the names are abbreviated as "××× et al." Translated works and translations are listed with the original author first, followed by the translator.
8 The compilation of this bibliography primarily relies on our institutional holdings of books and journals, while also referencing works such as General Bibliography of China and New Bibliography of China compiled by the National Library of China, General Index of Chinese Newspapers and Journals compiled by the Shanghai Library, and Chinese Studies Newsletter compiled by the Chinese Studies Research Center in Taiwan.
