What medications can be taken for inflamed foreskin?

Patient's question:

I recently don't know what's going on, my lower body is very uncomfortable, and I'm not getting morning erections anymore. I was wondering what medicine I can take for balanitis.

Doctor's answer:

Balanitis is more common in adolescents and children. It is often caused by excessive foreskin, smegma, and the accumulation of dirt in the foreskin due to poor hygiene, leading to bacterial infection. In the early stages, mild cases may only present with redness of the glans and inner foreskin, accompanied by itching. Severe cases may involve pain and tenderness. In later stages, superficial ulcers may develop in the foreskin, accompanied by yellow or cheese-like discharge, often with a foul odor. Significant local redness and swelling can affect urination and cause dysuria. Balanitis is entirely preventable. Maintaining good hygiene habits, undergoing circumcision for those with excessive foreskin or phimosis (where the foreskin cannot be retracted), and other measures all play a significant role in prevention. If the condition is detected, the foreskin should be retracted and soaked in potassium permanganate solution for cleaning, with appropriate antibiotic use. Most cases are cured within a few days. For more severe cases, effective treatment under medical guidance is necessary.
