For those with more severe symptoms that may affect fertility, surgical treatment should be considered, specifically high ligation of the spermatic vein. Generally, mild symptoms may not require any treatment, and a scrotal support bandage can be used to lift and protect the scrotum.
Local steam bathing may provide some therapeutic benefits. The herbal formula includes 30 grams each of Astragalus, Sambucus, and Salvia miltiorrhiza, 10 grams each of Foeniculum, Notopterygium, and Carthamus, decocted in boiling water and used to steam the affected area. Do this twice daily for 30 minutes each time. One batch of the decoction can be used for 2–3 days.
Typically, patients can be discharged 2 weeks after surgery.
