What to do about post-foreskin surgery edema

Patient's question:

Post- circumcision surgery, swelling naturally subsides over time, or does it require anti-inflammatory medication to reduce? Is the anti-inflammatory medication used to treat swelling or to address infection and inflammation? If I need to take medication, would Amoxicillin and Lixisenatide be suitable?
Thank you, doctor!!!

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Postoperative edema can naturally subside. If symptoms of inflammation, such as pain, fever, or redness, occur, anti-inflammatory medication can be administered. Amoxicillin and Augmentin can be taken. The cause of edema is the interruption of blood and lymphatic vessels in the skin after circumcision, with new circulation pathways not yet established, leading to poor drainage. Recovery typically takes 2-3 weeks, though it may last longer than 3 months. However, there is no need to panic, as the swelling will naturally resolve once new circulation forms. If the edema persists for an extended period, it is advisable to revisit the hospital to prevent secondary infection.
Postoperatively, maintain cleanliness and dryness in the surgical area. Sexual activity should only resume one month after the surgery. Avoid spicy or irritating foods, as well as foods that are considered "heating" (e.g., chicken, duck, beef, lamb, and seafood) for the first two weeks. Keep the wound dry and avoid contact with water. Drink less water before bedtime and do not hold urine. If you feel the urge to urinate, go to the bathroom promptly to prevent erections. If an erection occurs, get up and move around to urinate and relieve tension.
