Patient's question:
Hello doctor: Can Pramesone be used for scrotal eczema?? My scrotum has been itchy recently! Sometimes it gets very red when I touch it!!!Doctor's answer:
Hello: Because this condition is not tinea, it cannot be treated as such. The condition should strictly avoid scratching, rubbing, friction, and hot water washing. Hot water, soap, salt water, alkaline water, and external applications of iodine, tinea medicine, or garlic are all contraindicated. As long as patients can ensure they do not scratch or irritate the skin, many can recover quickly. The condition is related to emotions, so maintaining a calm mood, getting adequate rest, and having confidence in winning the battle against the disease are also key factors. In terms of diet, it is important to avoid spicy and irritating foods such as garlic, onions, and ginger. For acute treatment, cold compresses should be the primary method. Use about 3,000 milliliters of clean water without adding any medication, or add 3 grams of alum. Alternatively, use a 10% berberine solution or decoct 30 grams of dandelion and 15 grams of chrysanthemum in water, cool it, and apply it as a wet compress. If there is a secondary infection, add 1 gram of chlorhexidine or 0.1 gram of potassium permanganate dissolved in 3,000 milliliters of clean water. These methods are very effective for treating scrotal itching and oozing.
For chronic treatment, traditional methods include applying indigo ointment or skin-drying ointment externally. Heat therapy is even better, or smoke therapy or a decoction of polygonum can be used. Western medicine treatment primarily involves topical corticosteroid creams, which should be used consistently for at least 1–2 months—applying it twice daily to the affected area without bandaging, preferably in very thin layers. There is no need to remove the previous application before applying the next dose. For infected eczema, antibacterial creams can be used. For thicker scrotal eczema, tar-based creams such as 5% coal tar cream, 5% pine tar cream, or 5% castor tar cream can be applied.
