Difference, Issue 2

Features: The purpose of Difference remains in its second issue a profound engagement with cutting-edge issues in contemporary international academia. Its cutting-edge nature is not market-driven. If it is recognized by many readers, it is because of the novelty, originality, and depth of its ideas, thus its focus lies in the exploration and expansion of the domain of intellectual issues. If one must insist on the term "market-driven," the editors would rather interpret it as a synonym for "social," as it represents the concern of intellectual academia with contemporary social issues. Derrida became a philosophical master influential across many disciplines in the latter half of the 20th century not because he consciously catered to market demands, but because his ideas are deeply relevant to contemporary society. Vulgarity is not social, whether in affirmative or feigned negative forms.
