What should I do if my child has dry stools?

Patient's question:

Patient Gender: Little girl, 1.5 years old. Recently, the little girl has been crying a lot when she defecates. Her stool is a bit dry, but it gets better after she goes. Now, she is given bananas, watermelons, and other fruits every day, but it still doesn't help. How can this be resolved? Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

First, children should not be picky eaters and should consume more rough fiber vegetables. If they drink milk, it's best to stop for a while. They can also drink a cup of honey water daily (it's not advisable to drink it for a long time after the symptoms subside). Due to other reasons, intestinal peristalsis may decrease, causing secretions in the child's intestines to not be expelled in a timely manner. Children may not have fully established bowel habits for some reasons, so treatment should be given based on different situations. For example, if there is too little moisture in the child's intestinal cavity, it may lead to constipation.
