Woolf's Selected Works

Author: Huang Mei
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2000-11-01
Features: The author's first novel, Voyage, was published in 1915, depicting the experiences of a British girl traveling to South America. After that, she also completed Night and Day and Jacob's Room. The latter portrays several friends and relatives visiting the room of a young man who died in the war, moved by the emotional objects and reflecting on the deceased from their own perspectives. The choice of subject matter for this book clearly relates to the author's memories of her young brother Solly, who died early. Although its content is largely realistic, it employs an indirect narrative method and a strong impressionistic style, attracting attention in the literary world. This novel, along with the short story collection Monday or Tuesday (1921), which was published slightly earlier, marks the author's new attempts in themes and techniques.
