A Popular History of Literature (Volume 1)

Author: Hu Shih
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1996-03-01
Features: The manuscript of this book was written in November and December of the 10th year of the Republic of China and January of the 11th year. Six years passed between the drafts, during which I gained a few dozen more pounds of weight, my hair turned white by a few dozen strands, and my insights should have also advanced. In these six years, many literary historical materials were added both domestically and internationally. The Dunhuang cave manuscripts of vernacular literature from the Tang and Five Dynasties periods, sorted and compiled by Mr. Luo Zhenyu, Mr. Wang Guowei, Mr. Paul Pelliot, Dr. Tada Hikō, and Mr. Dong Kang, have provided us with many texts that can be utilized. Last year, I also collected some vernacular literary materials in Paris and London. This is a batch of very important new materials.
