On May 4, 1942, Japanese forces launched a sudden advance, occupying the mountainous regions of western Yunnan and northern Myanmar, achieving a strategic blockade to cut off China's land transportation during the Anti-Japanese War. In 1943, General Stilwell came to China with a sacrificial spirit, coordinating the joint efforts of Chinese, American, British, Indian, and Burmese forces to launch the Northern Myanmar and Western Yunnan Road Campaign. On January 1945, Allied forces achieved a complete victory in the while simultaneously opening and recapturing the China-Myanmar-India International Highway. During the war, the highest authorities of the United States and China, to honor General Stilwell's outstanding contributions, named this highway the "Stilwell Road."
