Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features: A historical record imbued with the blood of 1,200 tons of human blood, "The Nanjing Massacre Documentation Project" reveals a brutal and authentic glimpse of history. The blood and tears of over 300,000 people, the battle history of the Nanjing Defense War, irrefutable evidence of Japanese atrocities, reports from foreign media, and records of the just trial—all of which make this collection of historical materials extremely valuable. The entire 15 million words consist of original, unedited materials, with no single sentence or word added by the compilers, preserving the original form of the historical records. Many of the materials in this collection have been published for the first time, presenting them to a broad audience for the first time. It covers all aspects of the massacre history, presenting undeniable facts to the world and revealing the truth of the events as they happened. This book is one of the volumes in the collection.
This volume is divided into six parts: The Origin of the Investigation into Japanese Atrocities, The Investigation Committee on Japanese Atrocities and the Nanjing Massacre Case, The Investigation by the Nanjing Municipal Government, The Investigation by the Nanjing Temporary Council, The Investigation by the Capital District Court, and the Investigation by the Central Government Agencies. The main sources of the materials are the archives preserved by the Second Historical Archives of China and the Nanjing Municipal Archives. It also includes selected materials from Qin Xiaoyi's "The Preliminary Collection of Important Historical Materials of the Republic of China—The Period of the War of Resistance Against Japan" and Chi Jingde's "A Historical Account of China's War of Resistance Against Japan." Most of the materials in this volume have been published for the first time and hold significant historical value.
It must be noted that due to the delayed investigation of the Nanjing Massacre case by eight years, as well as the complexity and urgency of the investigation work, the collected materials are not complete. Even based on the archival materials included in this volume, there are instances where investigation forms are missing conclusions, or conclusions are missing investigation forms. However, the evidentiary nature and legal significance of the materials in this volume are undeniable.
