Chinese Classics Treasury - Selections of Ancient Chinese Prose (Vol. 1 & 2)

Author: Tan Guoqing
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-03-01
Features: This book is divided into two volumes, with a total collection originating from the Wen Xuan, which was unprecedented before the Liang Dynasty. Emperor Xiaoming established the format, with strict and refined rules. By the time the Wen Yuan Ying Hua of the Song Dynasty was published, it began to value quantity over refinement, becoming disorganized and losing coherence. The works of Liu Zongyuan, Bai Juyi, Quan Deyou, Li Shangyin, Gu Yun, Luo Yin, and others were included in the entire volume. Yao Xian's Tang Wen Cu began to trim the excess, following the school of Mu Xiu and Liu Kai, while placing the Dougu and Changzhou schools as the orthodox. Gu Heng still had a gap with Yansheng. The Han and Xu schools of Han, Jing, and the Four Masters of the Tang Dynasty still favored parallel prose, placing Han, Liu, Li, and Sun in the Complete Tang Anthology, which clearly did not fit. Those who were not deeply versed in literature could not distinguish it.
