Features: Shouting for One's Own Voice is a collection of news works by He Rongde, the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Dazhong Media Group. Reading through each piece, it feels like having a casual chat with old He. His straightforwardness, briskness, approachability, and humor are all hidden in the words. The book speaks of the truth with passion. Most of the works were written between the 1970s and 1980s. This was an era when China's reform and opening-up wave was stirring, rising, and surging—when innovation clashed with conservatism, openness with closure, and civilization with ignorance. Change breeds news. The author frequently traveled to grassroots communities, experiencing firsthand the pulse of the times, and his works are deeply marked by the era. The works are divided into six volumes:
"Voice," characterized by its early focus. With a keen news sense, it reflects policy breakthroughs, emerging phenomena, and reform measures in advance.
"Warning Calls," especially sharp. It exposes contradictions and issues, lashing out at negative phenomena—though sometimes harsh to the ear, it serves as bitter medicine.
"New Era Rhythms," characterized by its novelty. It captures the essence of changing times and listens to the sound of progress.
"Ordinary People," characterized by its focus on the small. It centers on unremarkable individuals who, though overlooked, work earnestly and live authentically, and the author portrays them with warmth and naturalness.
"Foreign Winds," characterized by its uniqueness. It vividly depicts the customs and sentiments of different countries with illustrations paired with text.
"Heartfelt Whispers," characterized by its practicality. It shares insights gained from years of hard writing and research, combined with reflections from multiple entries into the China News Award, aiming for practicality.
The book places great emphasis on historical materials, including numerous facsimiles such as ration coupons, directives, and photographs, to provide a more direct interpretation of the context and enhance reading interest.
