Features: Ancient Chinese writing theory is often scattered across classics, commentaries, treatises, and historical records, with most literary works focusing on literary discussions. There are fewer specialized works on non-literary writing. Moreover, as time progresses and society develops, both the content and form of writing have undergone significant changes. For example, certain genres have disappeared in the course of historical evolution, while others have developed or transformed, and new genres continue to emerge. Additionally, the styles, schools, and expressive techniques of writing are constantly being updated. Although ancient writing theory is rich, it can no longer fully meet the needs of contemporary writing activities, necessitating the establishment of a modern discipline of writing studies and textual studies.
The universality of writing is primarily reflected in two aspects: On one hand, the saying "writing is essential in all professions, and everyone must write" accurately depicts the flourishing of writing in the new era. Journalists write news, secretaries draft official documents, business professionals write contracts and advertisements, legal practitioners write complaints and judgments, and researchers compose scientific reports and papers. Politicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, educators, and countless ordinary people—what industry or profession can do without writing? On the other hand, with the reduction in illiteracy and the improvement of cultural literacy, the possibility of writing has emerged. The necessity and possibility of writing combine to transform article writing into a "great undertaking for governing the nation and an immortal achievement," moving it from the realm of scholars to the homes of ordinary people, becoming a shared endeavor for hundreds of millions.
