It is believed to provide readers with helpful and interesting historical materials. The New Century Universal Library focuses on the popularization and dissemination of culture, selecting rare and valuable editions of Chinese and foreign classics in accordance with the principles of being essential, practical, durable, and easily preserved. Under the guidance of experts from various disciplines at home and abroad, the library aims to reflect the general outline of human cultural development and select a basic reading list for modern households in the 21st century. This book is part of the Traditional Culture Series of the New Century Universal Library. During the Pacific War, Deng Zhicheng lived in Sangshuyuan Hutong in the western suburbs of Beijing, where he spent his idle time reading for self-entertainment, also with the intention of seclusion and self-cultivation. After finishing each book, he wrote down his thoughts and research as reading notes, totaling 45 entries, which were later compiled into Sangyuan Reading Notes. The preface states, "Books are valuable for careful reading, and even more so for thoughtful reflection," offering readers insights into reading methods. The main contents include Diary of Qizhongming Gong, Collection of Yishan, Mingyi Dafanglu, Record of Xiangjun, Baopuzi, Essentials of the Imperial Court, Xiangxue An Collection, Drafts of Yanxi Master, Brief History of the Ministry of Rituals, Notes from Passing the Court, and more. At the end of the book, there is also Collected Accounts of Liu Shiyi by Xueyuan Huayu, a Qing Dynasty scholar, which has high historical value and serves as an important reference for studying the lives of Qian Qianyi and Liu Shiyi in the early Qing Dynasty.
