The passage of time has been swift since 1975, when I began teaching the Law of Obligations course at the Department of Law and the Graduate Institute of Law at National Taiwan University. It has been over a quarter of a century. Through teaching and learning, I have gained some insights into the theory and practice of the Law of Obligations, though I always felt they were not entirely solid. Over the years, I have written several articles on the Law of Obligations. These articles were written due to various circumstances that sparked the idea to start writing. The writing style of these articles falls between a textbook and a monograph. Overall, there are still many topics that need to be supplemented. However, I thought that it might take about two more years to achieve a preliminary completeness, and the volume might also be too large, which was a bit daunting. Therefore, I have compiled the articles related to the General Principles of the Law of Obligations into Volume I and Volume II for publication first. The arrangement of the subsequent volumes (Volume III and beyond) will correspond to Volume I and Volume II to facilitate readers in categorizing the articles by volume. For the various parts of the Law of Obligations, the Sales Law was rewritten and republished this April. One of the key focuses of the rewrite was its connection with the general provisions or theory of the Law of Obligations, allowing for mutual reference. Today, the publication of this book is especially thanks to my mentor, Justice Wang Zaijian, who accepted me as his disciple and gave me the opportunity to teach the Law of Obligations course at National Taiwan University, providing me with a chance to learn. I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to my doctoral advisor, Dr. Josef Esser, for whom I have endless memories! Learning is endless. If there are any shortcomings in the discussions, I sincerely invite my teachers and esteemed scholars from all walks of life to kindly offer your guidance. I would be very grateful.
