Features: Since the reform and opening-up, China's economy has experienced rapid growth, significantly improving its comprehensive national strength and people's living standards. To maintain comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable economic development and avoid major fluctuations, the central and local governments have consistently emphasized the importance and urgency of economic and industrial restructuring while promoting economic growth. Recently, the Central Economic Work Conference proposed that in 2005, efforts should continue to strengthen and improve macroeconomic regulation, vigorously advance restructuring, promote a transformation in the growth model, and ensure stable and rapid economic development. To help relevant government departments, enterprises, and research institutions better grasp the current status, development prospects, and investment opportunities of major national industries during a period of significant economic restructuring, and to align with the central government's direction for industrial restructuring, the China Economic Information Network of the National Information Center organized leaders from government departments and authoritative experts from relevant industries to launch the China Industry Development Report 2004 series. This is the latest research outcome, completed based on summarizing the successful experiences of the previous two reports and fully incorporating expert suggestions and reader feedback. The new report covers 30 important industries, conducts in-depth research on their supply-demand conditions, proportion structures, development trends, and existing problems, and objectively evaluates the investment opportunities and business prospects of each industry in light of national industrial policies and their adjustment directions. To meet the broad demands of society, CEIC selected 20 reports from the new series for public publication, allowing more readers to share these valuable research outcomes. I believe the publication of the China Industry Development Report 2004 series will help government management departments and corporate leaders better select investment directions in the new year, prevent redundant construction, promote industrial structure optimization, improve the overall economic efficiency of society, and achieve sustainable and balanced national economic development.
